Elektro's commitment to sustainable development is stated in its Management Policy, which clearly establishes that the company is continually seeking improvements in the quality of its services, together with continued improvements and innovation in its processes, technology, and managerial systems, aimed at guaranteeing the satisfaction of its customers, shareholders, employees, and communities.

This vision, which has been broadened to satisfy the strategic public, can also be observed in the Management Policy directives, which refer to the environmental, social, occupational health and safety, and human resources sectors, as well as in the company’s Mission Statement and Values.

Strategic public satisfaction and guarantees of sustainability for all also lie within the scope of corporate governance commitment, which, at Elektro, is based on ethics and transparency.  Ethical issues are dealt with by the Ethics Committee, an independent body with a mandate to ensure that the Code of Conduct is applied and updated.  All denunciations are assessed by the committee, who advise the board of directors on the measures to be taken, which are in turn communicated to the shareholders.

Another important corporate governance instrument is the Internal Controls and Processes Evaluation Committee, which is composed of all company directors. The purpose of this committee is to ensure not only that auditing is aligned with the company's strategic objectives, but also the correct implementation of all necessary measures for improving the organization's internal controls.  Information and deliberations by this committee are also communicated to shareholders.

As a Consequence, Elektro consolidates the necessity to integrate the three pillars of the Bottom Line (economic, environmental and social performance) into company strategy in order to achieve its Vision - to be the most admired power distribution company in Brazil – and then to translate this into management practice, by observing and minimizing, as much as possible, the impact of its activities on the environment.

The promotion of sustainable development is also guaranteed through Elektro's commitment to the Global Compact principles, to which it subscribes, and to those of Fundação Abrinq, which accredit the company as Child Friendly, as well as through its engagement in promoting the Eight Millennium Development Goals.

In order to contribute to the sustainability of its business and the communities it serves, Elektro's main challenges for 2007 are related to Safety, Quality Management, the Environment, and Social Responsibility.
